Richard Davalos (born November 5, 1930 in New York City , New York - † March 8, 2016 in Burbank , California ) was an American actor .
Life
Richard Davalos' acting career began in the early 1950s. After a few theater and television roles, he became known in 1955 for his role in the classic film Out of Eden by Elia Kazan . He played Aron Trask, the well-bred son of a farmer, who goes insane at the end of the film through the participation of his "bad" brother (played by James Dean ). Although Davalos received good reviews for his performance, the main focus was on Dean. In the same year Davalos was also seen on the side of John Wayne in the war film The Sea Fox . From September 1955 he played in New York in the theater production A View from the Bridge , the premiere of which was the world premiere of the play by Arthur Miller . In 1956 he was awarded the Theater World Award for his portrayal of Rodolpho , which is given for Broadway and off-Broadway productions.
In the years that followed, he was mainly seen on television, including a guest appearance on the series Bonanza . In 1961 he played a corporal in the American Civil War in eleven episodes of the short-lived series The Americans . In 1967 he played the silent inmate Blind Dick in the prison drama Cool Hand Luke with Paul Newman in the lead role. In the 1970s, he mainly had guest roles on television or took on supporting roles in rather second-rate films. In the early 1980s, Davalos largely withdrew from the film and television business. Instead, he worked as a stage actor and as an acting teacher. In 2008, Davalos played his final role in the B-movie comedy Ninja Cheerleaders .
Davalos also gained some fame by the fact that the group The Smiths used pictures of him on various releases, including the album Strangeways, Here We Come from 1987. He was the father of the actress Elyssa Davalos and the musician Dominique Davalos , as well as the grandfather of the actress Alexa Davalos . Richard Davalos died in March 2016 at the age of 85.
