The Missing ( English the missing ) is a British crime series that of Harry and Jack Williams was developed and written.
action
First season
Tony, Emily and their five-year-old son Ollie have to stop in a town in northern France because of a breakdown on their way on vacation. During the live broadcast of the quarter-finals of the 2006 soccer World Cup in a pool bar, Ollie disappears among a crowd of soccer fans. Despite an extensive search, the boy has disappeared without a trace. The local police entrusted one of France's most renowned investigators, Julien Baptiste, with the case. The desperation of the parents is followed by the media down to the smallest detail.
Eight years later, Ollie's disappearance is still not cleared up. The parents have separated in the meantime, but Tony still doesn't believe in the death of his son. Emily is now in a new relationship with Detective Mark Walsh. When new clues emerge about his son's disappearance, Tony persuades the now retired investigator Julien Baptiste to reopen the case. In the end, the parents learn that their son was hit by a drunk driver and that his brother, the examining magistrate, had all traces removed, but it is not finally clear whether the child is dead or has been kidnapped by child traffickers. While the mother assumes the death of her son, closes the story and remarries, the father continues to investigate and, after addressing children as his son in many places, is arrested in Russia.
Second season
Sam and Gemma Webster are British military personnel who are stationed in Eckhausen near Hanover . Eleven years ago, their 13-year-old daughter Alice disappeared without a trace, the couple was left alone with their son Matthew.
Shortly before Christmas 2014, Alice suddenly reappears in her hometown. The seriously ill girl is admitted to the hospital and mumbles the name "Sophie Giroux" in delirium. Her appendix is removed at the clinic . The parents wait at the bedside until Alice wakes up. The young woman is severely traumatized and shrinks from her family.
The military police restart the investigation, led by Eve Stone. Suspecting a connection with the abduction of Sophie Giroux, Eve contacts the retired Julien Baptiste, who was entrusted with the case of the French girl while he was active. Julien makes his way to Germany to question Alice, who has been released.
Alice lives again with her parents, who have no access to their daughter. In the interviews with the police, Alice states that the local butcher abducted her and Sophie. The accused denies everything and the search for the dungeon remains fruitless. When a military man shoots himself, Julien Baptiste finds a lead that leads to Iraq.
In another storyline, the course of the investigation is told two years later, in 2016. Alice is dead and her father Sam is disfigured by severe burn scars. Julien Baptiste is terminally ill and does everything in his power to find the second missing girl.
