Johan Leysen

Johan Leysen (born February 19, 1950 in Hasselt ) is a Flemish stage and film actor. His father Bert Leysen was the founding director of the then public Flemish broadcaster BRT , and his twin sister Frie Leysen is the festival director.

Life

Johan Leysen studied from 1974 at the Studio Herman Teirlinck , an acting school . He began his theater career on various Dutch stages. A role in Jean-Luc Godard's Maria and Joseph led him to move to France in 1983 . Numerous film roles followed, mostly in French productions, but also in various international ones. He also remained loyal to the theater.

In 1993 he was awarded Best Actor at the Montréaler World Film Festival for his role in Radu Mihăileanus Trahir ; In 1997 he was nominated for best actor for his role in Tralievader for the Gouden Kalf , but came away empty-handed; In 1998 he finally received this award for the leading role in the Dutch production Felice… Felice… . In the German-speaking world, he was only noticed more widely through a role in the blockbuster The American . In 2018 he received the Belgian Mira d'Or Lifetime Achievement Film Award .

He has lived in Paris since 2000 .
