About Love is a US comedy film from 1997 in which two people abandoned by their partners form a community of convenience to get revenge on their ex-partners.
action
The teacher Linda leaves her astronomer friend Sam for two months and moves to New York . After this time, however, she does not return, but a letter announcing the end of the relationship to Sam. Sam follows Linda to New York and finds that another man has taken his place: Antoine, a French restaurant owner. Sam settles in an abandoned house across from Antoine's apartment and watches the two of them in order to be able to recapture Linda when the opportunity arises.
After a few days he meets the photographer Maggie, who is obsessed with taking revenge on her ex-fiancé Antoine. She puts bugs in Antoine's apartment so that she can eavesdrop on the couple. From now on, she and Sam Antoine and Linda watch their lives in the apartment and plan their next revenge steps.
They have a street artist paint his monkey with lipstick and jump on the unsuspecting Antoine who passes by. When Linda finds traces of lipstick on Antoine's shirt that evening, he can calm her down. A short time later, children spray Antoine with water pistols - Maggie and Sam had previously mixed perfume into the water. Linda becomes suspicious and is difficult to convince that the perfume is a child's prank and not another woman.
Maggie decides to harm Antoine professionally and financially. She steals his credit card and empties his account. Together with Sam, who smuggles himself into Antoine's restaurant as a dishwasher, she distributes cockroaches in the dining room when a respected restaurant critic is dining there. Antoine's restaurant is closed by the health authorities, but Linda stands by him - Antoine proposes to her. When Maggie and Sam are about to give up, Linda finds Antoine's panties that Maggie had previously hidden in the apartment. She leaves Antoine and moves into a hotel.
Sam and Maggie got closer through the joint actions. They even slept together - in Antoine's and Linda's bed when they were gone - but Sam now wants to win Linda back. He meets with Linda and they both agree to meet for the evening, when Sam promptly meets Antoine in front of Linda's hotel, who now regards his former dishwasher as his only friend and takes him to his apartment. They both drink together, which Maggie is watching from the apartment across the street. When both men fell asleep over their drinks, Maggie sneaks into Antoine's apartment and distributes moldy strawberries that her ex is allergic to. The next day, Antoine has a rash all over his body. In an accident for which Sam is to blame, Antoine breaks both arms a short time later, has to wear an upper body cast and cannot scratch himself. Sam and Maggie realize that they have taken revenge enough.
Sam explains all of her actions to Linda and she reacts angrily. Maggie learned that Antoine really liked her, but never loved her, and therefore left her out of honesty. You and Antoine decide to be even. Linda returns to Antoine. Sam leaves New York and flies home, but watches an episode of the series Lassie on the plane - and returns to Maggie because he has realized that she only wanted to show him her love with her behavior. In the end, they both hug and kiss.
