biography

After studying for a year at the London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), he began performing and writing on the New York stage in the 1960s and 1970s . At the same time he was already playing guest roles in various television series . When Clint Eastwood saw him in an off-Broadway play , he hired Robinson for the crime film Dirty Harry . After Robinson played the killer Scorpio in Dirty Harry in 1971 , his film career came to a standstill for the time being. As a result of the impersonation of an unscrupulous serial killer in Dirty Harry , Robinson was offered mostly similar roles as a cinematic villain. However, Robinson did not want to be committed to this one character type, which is why he turned his back on the film industry for the time being.

He continued his work in the theater and with episodic television appearances. In 1977 he starred in the film Ryan's Hope , which received an Emmy nomination. By the time he finally received the LA Drama Critics Circle Best Actor Award in 1985 , he was firmly established in the business.

Andrew J. Robinson was cast in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine in 1992 , initially slated for the role of Odo . However, this ultimately went to René Auberjonois and Robinson was given the role of Cardassian Elim Garak .

In addition, Robinson directed several episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Spaceship Voyager . Finally, in 2000, Andrew J. Robinson wrote the deep space nine novel A Stitch in Time ( ISBN 0-6710-3885-0 ), Garak's biography. From 2001 to 2005 he directed several episodes of the series For All Cases Amy .

Robinson has been married since 1970. The couple have a daughter, Rachel, who appeared in the Deep Space Nine episode The Visit , and two grandchildren. Furthermore, Irene Robinson has two sons from her previous marriage. Andrew J. Robinson is the godfather of the son of Nana Visitor and Alexander Siddig , both fellow actors from Deep Space Nine.
