Emergence

The foundation was created through the foundation business on March 27, 2008. Founder is the German management consultant Roland Berger , the foundation capital amounts to 50 million euros. The deed of foundation was presented to the founder on March 27, 2008 by the incumbent Prime Minister of Bavaria Günther Beckstein . According to the founder, his experiences during the Second World War were the trigger for the establishment of the foundation. As a child he experienced "in his own family how political distress can cause fear and suffering and how precious human dignity and tolerance are."

According to an article in the Handelsblatt, Berger distanced himself from portraying his father as an alleged opponent and victim of National Socialism. In truth, according to the Handelsblatt, he profited from Aryanization and promoted the NSDAP. Berger relativized the meaning of the statements in his speech, since the reference to his father was not included in the foundation's statutes.

Foundation purpose

The foundation pursues two foundation purposes:

On the one hand, the foundation should make a significant contribution worldwide to the respect, promotion and protection of human dignity in a worldwide open and peaceful society based on the idea of international understanding and tolerance, in which all people can freely develop their skills. The Roland Berger Human Dignity Award , which is awarded regularly in Berlin, honors people and organizations who work in an exemplary and successful manner for human dignity, tolerance and international understanding. The award winner is determined by the Foundation's award committee.

On the other hand, the foundation is dedicated to promoting education. With the German Student Scholarship, she supports talented children and young people with difficult starting conditions from the first grade. Currently, more than 700 scholarship holders are supported nationwide. The focus is on imparting knowledge, personal development, value orientation and personal support from a volunteer mentor . Each scholarship holder receives an individual support plan that specifically supports them according to their strengths and needs and covers ten learning areas. On the basis of the German Student Scholarship, the Foundation GmbH has developed the German Student Scholarship, a new funding program for unaccompanied minors , and supports them as an independent youth welfare agency . The first supervised residential group was opened on May 1st, 2015 in Ingolstadt.

Bodies

The foundation has set up a board of trustees that makes decisions on all fundamental matters. In addition to the founder, Karin Berger, former State Secretary, he also owns. D. Harald Braun, Jürgen Hambrecht, Dirk Ippen, Herbert Püls, State Secretary Cornelia Quennet-Thielen , Wolfgang Reitzle , Georg von Werz, Marie M. The day-to-day business is handled by a board of directors appointed by the board of trustees, the members of which are Regina Pötke and Hermann Pointl. In addition, the Board of Trustees suggests the candidates for the Human Dignity Award, from which the Award Committee selects the winner.

Alliance for Education

The foundation is a founding partner of the Alliance for Education under the umbrella of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . The alliance networks existing initiatives and specialist knowledge and brings together government, private and civil society organizations and initiatives in Germany in order to support children and young people in all phases of their educational stations. The alliance comprises seven fields of action in which children and young people are supported and is open to all supporting organizations and initiatives that are committed to the education of young people.
