Gauche Unitaire

Christian Picquet

The Gauche Unitaire (United Left) was a small French party .

It was developed by members of the Trotskyite dominated Communiste Révolutionnaire Ligue founded, working for unity with the PCF had spoken and the other forces on the left of the Socialists (flow Unir ). Since the referendum in 2005, Unir has defended this position within the LCR, whose leadership pleaded for a gathering of left-wing extremists within an enlarged LCR led by party leader Besancenot.

The chairman of this current, Christian Picquet, announced on March 8, 2009 that he would support the Front de gauche , which was constituted on the same day , following the line of the newly founded successor party to the LCR, the Nouveau Parti Anticapitaliste (NPA) under Olivier Besancenot , contradicted. So he had to leave the party. Unir dissolved, and the majority of Picquet's supporters formed with him the Gauche Unitaire, which was part of the Front de Gauche. Picquet himself was number three on the list in the Paris constituency.

The Gauche Unitaire was a member of the European Left .

On September 8, 2015, the Gauche Unitaire disbanded and became part of the PCF .
