The eparchy Holy Family of London ( lat. : Eparchia Sacrae Familiae Londonensis ) is in the UK located eparchy of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church , based in London .
history
The first Ukrainian immigrants settled in London immediately after the end of World War II . Most of them were soldiers from the Ukraine who belonged to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and were threatened with persecution. Pope Pius XII then founded, with the Bull Quia Christ on June 10, 1957, the Apostolic Exarchate England and Wales (Inghilterra e Galles). With the decree Apostolica Constitutione on May 12, 1968 it was named Apostolic Exarchate Great Britain . The Archbishop of Westminster William Godfrey had led the Exarchate of England and Wales in a secondary function from 1957 to 1963. His full-time successor acquired the “King's Weigh House Church” in London, had it converted for the Byzantine rite and consecrated it to the “Holy Family in Exile”. With the establishment of the church and the establishment as a bishopric , the church received the appointment of the "Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of The Holy Family in Exile" . The name refers to the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt . Benedict XVI. elevated it to an eparchy on January 18, 2013.
