The Roman Catholic Diocese of Clifton ( lat. : Dioecesis Cliftoniensis ) is in United Kingdom situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Bristol , district of Clifton .

history

It comes from the Vicariate Apostolic Western District founded on January 30, 1688 . In 1840 the Vicariate gave territories to establish the Vicariate Wales District . On September 29, 1850 - restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England - it became a diocese with the division of the diocese of Plymouth and has since been subordinate to the Archdiocese of Birmingham as a suffragan diocese.
