history

St. Barnabas Cathedral in Nottingham

The diocese of Nottingham was on September 29, 1850 by Pope Pius IX. with the Apostolic Constitution Universalis Ecclesiae - restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England - established from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Central District and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Westminster as a suffragan . On May 30, 1980, the Diocese of Nottingham gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Diocese of Hallam .
