The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hallam ( lat. Dioecesis Hallamensis , English Diocese of Hallam ) is in United Kingdom situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Sheffield , country part of England .

history

The Diocese of Hallam was established on May 30, 1980 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Qui arcano Dei from cessions of territory from the Dioceses of Leeds and Nottingham and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Liverpool as a suffragan . Since the Church of England had created a diocese of Sheffield in 1917 , a different name was chosen for the Catholic foundation. It is derived from Hallamshire , the former name of the area.
