John Rawsthorne

John Anthony Rawsthorne (born November 12, 1936 in Crosby ) is an English Roman Catholic clergyman and emeritus Bishop of Hallam .

Life

After studying philosophy and theology at St. Joseph's College in Upholland, John Rawsthorne was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Liverpool on June 16, 1962 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in Liverpool and titular bishop of Rotdon on November 9, 1981 . The Archbishop of Liverpool, Derek Worlock , donated him episcopal ordination on December 16 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were the Liverpool auxiliary bishops Kevin O'Connor and Anthony Hitchen .

On July 4, 1997, he was appointed Bishop of Hallam . He was Chairman of the Committee for the Pastoral Care of the Deaf , formerly Chairman of the Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD). He was a member of the International Affairs Department of the Bishops' Conference.

Pope Francis granted his request for retirement on May 20, 2014 and on May 20, 2014 appointed Ralph Heskett CSsR , previously Bishop of Gibraltar , as his successor.
