José Alberto Rozo Gutiérrez SMM (born February 22, 1937 in Cáqueza ; † May 24, 2018 ) was a Colombian clergyman and Vicar Apostolic of Puerto Gaitán .

Life

Jose Alberto Rozo Gutierrez joined the Congregation of Montfortains at and received on 19 August 1962, the priestly ordination . He studied philosophy at the seminary of his order in Choachí (1951–1956) and theology at the great missionary seminary (1957–1962). He also studied psychology at the Javeriana University in Bogotá and sociology in Rome. He was a teacher and trainer in the Minor Seminary of his congregation in Choachí and from 1973 head of the House of Youth in Bogotá. He later became director of the Instituto Departamental Ignacio Pescador and an economist and provincial of his religious community. Since 1995 he was advisor to the superior general of his order.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Pro-Prefect of the Apostolic Prefecture of Vichada in 1995 . On December 22, 1999, he was appointed Vicar Apostolic of Puerto Gaitán and Titular Bishop of Arsennaria . The Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Archbishop Beniamino Stella , donated him episcopal ordination on March 19 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Alfonso Cabezas Aristizábal CM , Bishop of Villavicencio , and Gregorio Garavito Jiménez SMM, Former Bishop of Villavicencio.

On March 2, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
