Gregorio Garavito Jiménez SMM (born March 9, 1919 in Junín , Colombia ; † February 16, 2016 ) was a Colombian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Villavicencio .

Life

Gregorio Garavito Jimenez joined the Congregation of Montfortains at and received on 24 July 1942, the priestly ordination . He was pastor in the province of Peloponeso II and secretary to Frans Joseph Bruls Canisius SMM, Vicar Apostolic of Villavicencio.

Pope John XXIII appointed him on December 4, 1961 titular bishop of Cyparissia and auxiliary bishop in Villavicencio. The Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, Archbishop Giuseppe Paupini , donated him episcopal ordination on February 11 of the following year. Co-consecrators were the Vicar Apostolic of Villavicencio, Frans Joseph Bruls Canisius SMM, and Auxiliary Bishop José Gabriel Calderón Contreras from Bogotá .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father.

On April 26, 1969 Paul VI appointed him . to the Bishop of Villavicencio. Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation on May 3, 1994.
