The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Villavicencio ( lat. : Archidioecesis Villavicentiensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Villavicencio ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Villavicencio .

history

The Archdiocese of Villavicencio was on June 23, 1903 by Pope Leo XIII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Cum perplures from cession of territory by the Archdiocese of Bogotá as the territorial prelature of Intendencias Orientales . The territorial prelature Intendencias Orientales was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bogotá as a suffragan . On March 16, 1908, the territorial prelature Intendencias Orientales was raised to the Apostolic Vicariate by Pope Pius X and renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Los Llanos de San Martín . The Apostolic Vicariate Los Llanos de San Martín gave on June 9, 1949 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Mitú . On June 9, 1949, the Apostolic Vicariate Los Llanos de San Martín was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Villavicencio . The Vicariate Apostolic Villavicencio gave on January 16, 1964 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Ariari .

On February 11, 1964, the Vicariate Apostolic Villavicencio was by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Universae regimen raised to the diocese. The diocese of Villavicencio was raised to an archbishopric on July 3, 2004 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Ad totius dominici .
