Óscar Urbina Ortega (born April 13, 1947 in Arboledas , Norte de Santander ) is Roman Catholic Archbishop of Villavicencio and has been Chairman of the Colombian Bishops' Conference since July 5, 2017 .

Life

The Archbishop of Bogotá and Military Vicar of Colombia , Cardinal Aníbal Muñoz Duque , ordained him a priest on November 30, 1973 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Forconium and auxiliary bishop in Bogotá on May 21, 1988 . The Archbishop of Bogotá, Pedro Rubiano Sáenz , donated him episcopal ordination on April 13 of the same year ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Paolo Romeo , Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia, and Tarcisio Pietro Evasio Bertone SDB , Secretary of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith .

On November 9, 1999, he was appointed Bishop of Cúcuta . On November 30, 2007, he was appointed Archbishop of Villavicencio and on January 25 of the next year he was appointed to the office.

On July 5, 2017, he was elected chairman of the Colombian Bishops' Conference.
