Anthocercis anisantha is a plant type from the genus Anthocercis in the family of the nightshade family (Solanaceae).

description

Anthocercis anisantha is a thorny shrub with a stature height of up to 3 m. It can be leafy or almost devoid of leaves and is hairy with glandular or non-glandular trichomes , only rarely is it hairless. Young leaves are narrowly elliptical, ovate or vice versa ovoid, they can be sessile or nearly sessile. They are usually 3 to 14 mm long and 1 to 3 mm wide. They have entire margins and are usually thick and fleshy or leathery.

The flowers are in compact, terminal, zyme- shaped inflorescences on 2 to 6 mm long pedicels . The calyx reaches a length of 2 to 4.5 mm, the crown is 7 to 20 mm long, is white to yellowish in color and provided with purple-brown or chestnut-brown stripes. The corolla lobes are linear to narrowly ovate and 2.5 to 15 mm long. The stamens are 2 to 6 mm long.

The fruit is an egg-shaped to egg-shaped-elliptical capsule , which can be pointed, pointed or tapered and 4.5 to 9 mm long. The seeds reach a length of 1.3 to 2 mm.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in temperate and arid areas of southwestern Western Australia (subsp. Anisantha ) and on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia (subsp. Collina ). It usually grows in open, disturbed locations on clay soils.

Systematics

Two subspecies are distinguished within the species:

  • Anthocercis anisantha subsp. anisantha
  • Anthocercis anisantha subsp. collina Haegi

The subspecies differ in the hairiness and the shape of the leaves: Subsp. anisantha has protruding glandular hairs and leaves that are less than five times as long as they are wide, while subsp. collina has non-glandular, close-fitting hairs and leaves that are more than six times as long as they are wide.
