The Roman Catholic Diocese of San José del Guaviare ( lat. : Dioecesis Sancti Iosephi a Guaviare , span. : Diócesis de San José del Guaviare ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in San José del Guaviare .

history

The diocese of San José del Guaviare was established on January 19, 1989 by Pope John Paul II from cession of the Apostolic Prefecture of Mitú as the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Guaviare .

On October 29, 1999, the Apostolic Vicariate of San José del Guaviare was raised to a diocese by John Paul II and placed under the Archdiocese of Bogotá as a suffragan . The diocese of San José del Guaviare was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Villavicencio as a suffragan on July 3, 2004 .
