The Roman Catholic Diocese of Northampton ( lat. : Dioecesis Northantoniensis ) is in United Kingdom situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Northampton .

history

The diocese of Northampton was founded in 1840 by Pope Gregory XVI. Established from assignments of territory by the Vicariate Apostolic Midland District as Vicariate Apostolic Eastern District . On September 29, 1850, the Vicariate Apostolic Eastern District by Pope Pius IX. with the Apostolic Constitution Universalis Ecclesiae - restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England - raised to the diocese and renamed the diocese of Northampton . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Westminster as a suffragan . The Diocese of Northampton gave on March 13, 1976 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of East Anglia .
