Patrick Leo McCartie

Patrick Leo McCartie (born September 5, 1925 in West Hartlepool , † April 23, 2020 in Birmingham ) was a British clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Northampton .

Life

Patrick Leo McCartie studied theology and philosophy at the seminary at Oscott College in Birmingham and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Birmingham on July 17, 1949 . He was curate at St. Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham and at Cotton College for a year (1950–1955). After serving in pastoral ministry in St Mary's parish in Wednesbury, he was director of education in the archbishopric ordinariate (1963–1968) and administrator (equivalent to a cathedral dean) of the Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Chad's Cathedral in Birmingham (1968–1977).

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 13, 1977 titular bishop of Elmhama and auxiliary bishop in Birmingham. The Archbishop of Birmingham, George Patrick Dwyer , donated him episcopal ordination on May 20 of the same year ; Co-consecrators were Joseph Gray , auxiliary bishop in Liverpool , and Joseph Francis Cleary , auxiliary bishop in Birmingham.

On February 20, 1990, Pope John Paul II called him Bishop of Northampton. On March 29, 2001, this accepted McCartie's age-related resignation.
