Joseph Gray (Bishop)

Joseph Gray (born October 20, 1919 in Finternagh , Ireland , † May 7, 1999 in Shrewsbury , West Midlands , Great Britain ) was an Irish clergyman and Bishop of Shrewsbury .

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy, Joseph Gray received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Birmingham on June 20, 1943 .

On December 19, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Mercia and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Liverpool . The Archbishop of Liverpool, George Andrew Beck AA , donated him episcopal ordination on February 16, 1969 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Birmingham, George Patrick Dwyer , and the Auxiliary Bishop of Liverpool, Augustine Harris . On August 19, 1980, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Shrewsbury.

On June 23, 1995, John Paul II accepted Joseph Gray's resignation on grounds of age.
