The Roman Catholic Diocese of Plymouth ( Latin Dioecesis Plymuthensis , English Diocese of Plymouth ) is a in the UK situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Plymouth .
history
Pope Pius IX founded on September 29, 1850 with the Apostolic Constitution Universalis Ecclesiae - restoration of the Catholic hierarchy in England - the diocese from cession of the diocese of Clifton and made it subject to the Archdiocese of Southwark as a suffragan .
William Vaughan was Bishop of Plymouth from 1855 to 1902 . He is considered the real "founding father" of the diocese.
In March 2011, more than 4,000 child pornographic files were discovered on the computers of the diocesan child protection officer Christopher Jarvis .
