Michel Hrynchyshyn

Michael (Michel) Hrynchyshyn CSsR (born February 18, 1929 in Buchanan ; † November 12, 2012 ) was Apostolic Exarch of France .

Life

Michel Hrynchyshyn joined the Redemptorist Order in 1945 . After his philosophical and theological training, he was ordained a priest on July 9, 1950 by the auxiliary bishop in Manitoba , Maxim Hermaniuk CSsR . He then studied for three years at the Pontifical Oriental Institute (PIO) in Rome , where he also received his doctorate in 1955.

In 1957 he became rector and professor of theology at St. Mary's Redemptorist Seminary in Meadowvale, Ontario, Canada . In 1960 he also became an advisor to the Winnipeg Provincial in Manitoba . From 1965 to 1967 he was head of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Saskatoon and from 1966 to 1967 of St. Joseph's Church in Winnipeg and was responsible for many Ukrainian churches in Canada and the United States. In 1972 he himself became Provincial of the Ukrainian Redemptorists in Yorkton Province and professor at the Yorkton Redemptorist Seminary. In 1975 he became superior and in 1981/82 head of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Saskatoon

Pope John Paul II appointed him on November 27, 1982 Apostolic Exarch of France and Titular Bishop of Zygris . The Grand Archbishop of Lviv , Cardinal Jossyf Ivanovič Slipyj , donated him episcopal ordination on January 30, 1983 ; Co- consecrators were Maxim Hermaniuk CSsR, Archbishop of Winnipeg , and Stephen Sulyk , Archbishop of Philadelphia .

On September 29, 1987, he was appointed Apostolic Administrator of Great Britain . He resigned from his office on June 24, 1989.

He was an advisor to the Congregation for the Eastern Churches and a member of the board of the Christian churches in France.

On July 21, 2012, Pope Benedict XVI. the resignation put forward by Michel Hrynchyshyn for reasons of age accepted.
