Life

He became a fellow in 1869 and worked as a tutor in that college until his death.

Nettleship mainly held courses on logic and Plato's state , sometimes also on the history of moral philosophy and the ethics of Aristotle . The logic courses mostly dealt with the history of logic, especially the logic of Aristotle and Bacon . In introducing philosophy, Nettleship felt it was more important to read ancient texts than contemporary ones because they expressed the ideas in a simpler way.

He is best known for his work as a university lecturer, but also for his essay The Theory of Education in the Republic of Plato , which appeared in 1880. After Thomas Hill Green's death in March 1882, he published works from his estate, first the Prolegomena to Ethics and later the Memoir . This work was Nettleship's last publication.

Nettleship is among other things teacher of HH Joachim .

He left an unfinished work on Plato that was published after his death with his lectures on logic and a few essays.
