The archeparchy Winnipeg ( lat. : Archieparchia Vinnipegensis Ucrainorum ) is in Canada located archeparchy the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church , based in Winnipeg .

history

The first immigration of Ukrainian emigrants to Canada began between 1891 and 1893 . A rural and local focus was today's province of Manitoba with its city of Winnipeg. When the second wave of immigration from Ukraine reached Canada in 1896, 27 families, with the help of Nestor Dmytriw , the first Greek Catholic priest in Canada, started the first congregation in Winnipeg. From this a further 15 churches and parishes were built between 1898 and 1915 .

On June 15, 1912, Pope Pius X , with the Apostolic Constitution Officium Supremi , laid the foundation stone for the Archeparchy of Winnipeg - initially as the Apostolic Exarchate of Canada . On January 19, 1948, the Apostolic Exarchate Canada gave up parts of its territory for the establishment of the Apostolic Exarchates Eastern Canada and Western Canada established with the Apostolic Constitution Omnium cuiusvis ritus . The Apostolic Exarchate Canada was renamed the Apostolic Exarchate Central Canada on January 19, 1948 . On March 10, 1951, the Apostolic Exarchate of Central Canada was renamed the Apostolic Exarchate of Manitoba .

On November 3, 1956, the Apostolic Exarchate Manitoba was by Pope Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Hanc Apostolicam raised to the Archeparchy and renamed the Archeparchy Winnipeg .
