Paul Patrick Chomnycky
Paul Patrick Chomnycky OSBM (born May 19, 1954 in Vancouver , Canada ) is Bishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Eparchy Stamford in the USA .
Life
Paul Patrick Chomnycky was born in Vancouver , the largest city in the Canadian province of British Columbia , in 1954 and comes from a Ukrainian family. Chomnycky graduated from the University of British Columbia with a successful degree in commerce and worked in the field for two years.
In 1982 Paul Patrick Chomnycky felt his calling and entered the monastic order of the Basilians . His novitiate began in November 1982 at Glen Cove Basilian Monastery . The vows put Chomnycky in Rome from 1 January 1988, where he, among others, at the Pontifical Gregorian University , the study of theology ( Catholic Theology ) and at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm , the philosophy studies completed up to the 1990 levels.
On October 1, 1988, Paul Patrick Chomnycky was ordained a priest by Bishop Jerome Chimy , at the age of 34, in his native Vancouver . Chomnycky spent his time as chaplain in two parishes, in the village of Mundare ( Alberta ) and in Edmonton , which he then led as pastor . Further activities followed, Chomnycky initially took over the duties of a superior of the Basilian monastery located in Mundare and became director of the Museum of the Basilians in the same village. Later Chomnycky became Provincial of the Basilian in Canada and then he worked as a consultor for the ecclesiastical schools of the Ukrainian Eparchy Edmonton .
On April 5, 2002, Chomnycky was appointed Titular Bishop of Buffada and Exarch of the Apostolic Exarchate for Great Britain . The episcopal ordination took place on June 11, 2002. The appointment as Bishop of Stamford took place on January 3, 2006. The episcopal ordination was held on February 20, 2006. The main consecrator was Lyubomyr Cardinal Husar ; Archbishops Michael Bzdel and Lawrence Daniel Huculak were co-consecrators .
