The district Mayfair ( listen ? / I ) is part of the London district of City of Westminster in the center of the city and is in close proximity to all the attractions of London's West End . Mayfair is bounded to the east by Soho , to the south by St James's , to the west by Hyde Park and to the north by Oxford Street and Marylebone . Much of the area has been owned by the Grosvenor family for more than 300 years , who have leased their properties there at high prices through the British leasehold system. The Grosvenors are still considered to be one of the richest families in England , and some streets and squares in Mayfair are named after them.

Mayfair is home to corporate headquarters, embassies, high-quality residential properties and luxury hotels along Piccadilly and Park Lane, as well as the famous Bond Street and New Bond Street shopping streets , where you can find the shops of some of the world's most famous fashion designers. In the Savile Row some of the best known and best are custom tailors in the world located. Another attraction is the Shepherd Market .

In addition, Mayfair is one of the most attractive residential areas in London due to its upscale architecture and proximity to the center, accordingly real estate prices often run to several million pounds.
