history
The Grand Archbishopric of Kiev-Halych was on August 29, 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI. built. The first Grand Archbishop was Lyubomyr Cardinal Husar MSU .
The Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halych is the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. The archbishopric exarchates of Kharkiv , Donetsk , Lutsk , Crimea and Odessa are subordinate to him.

Department of Military and Prison Chaplaincy
The two commissions for military pastoral care and pastoral care of prisoners were opened on October 3, 2006 to form the department for military and prison pastoral care in the patriarchal curia of the major archdiocese of Kiev-Halych. The management of the department was entrusted to Bishop Mychajło Kołtun CSsR , who is also Bishop of the Sokal-Shovkwa Eparchy . Thus he also acts as a military bishop for the Ukrainian armed forces. The department for pastoral care in the armed forces is carried out by the priest Lubomyr Jaworskyi. The deacon Konstantiyn Pantelei heads the department for the pastoral care of prisoners . The government of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church signed a joint memorandum to promote cooperation. At the annual meeting of the main military chaplains of the UGKK, the work of the department for the interests of the dioceses is discussed and coordinated. Representatives of the Ministry of Interior and Defense and members of the interdenominational fraternity also take part in this general meeting. The annual general meeting of the military chaplains decided to organize an annual military pilgrimage to the pilgrimage site of Zarvanytsia / Western Ukraine , to which international armed forces should also be invited. Representatives and members of the Ministry of the Interior, the State Border Service and the Ministry of Extraordinary Affairs should also take part in the pilgrimages.
