Svyatoslav Shevchuk
Svjatoslaw Schewtschuk ( Ukrainian Святосла́в Шевчу́к , scientific transliteration Svjatoslav Shevchuk ; born May 5, 1970 in Stryj , Lviv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halytsch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church .
Life
Sviatoslav Shevchuk visited after the middle school , the school of nursing in Boryslaw . From 1983 to 1989 he was also an alumnus of the seminary of the underground church in Ukraine. Shevchuk studied philosophy at the Salesian University in Buenos Aires from 1991 to 1993 . He then studied Catholic theology at the seminary in Lviv until 1994 . Svyatoslav Shevchuk received the sacrament of ordination of deacons on May 21, 1994 from the auxiliary bishop in Lviv , Philemon Kurchaba CSsR . On June 26, 1994, Shevchuk received the sacrament of ordination from the Grand Archbishop of Lemberg, Myroslaw Cardinal Lyubachivskyi . He was incardinated in the clergy of the Archeparchy of Lemberg .
In 1994 Svyatoslaw Shevchuk was sent to Rome for further studies . It was in 1999 at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas with a moral theological dissertation entitled "La vita trasfigurata in Cristo" ( "Life in Christ transfigured") summa cum laude for a doctor of theology doctorate . Shevchuk was prefect of the Lviv seminary from 1999 to 2000 . From 2000 to 2007 he was a sub-rain of the Lviv seminary. Since 2001 Svyatoslaw Shevchuk was also Vice-Rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv. In addition, from 2002 to 2005 he was the private secretary of the Grand Archbishop of Lviv, Cardinal Lyubomyr Husar MSU . In June 2007, Svyatoslav Shevchuk became the regens of the Lviv seminary.
On January 14, 2009, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . the titular bishop of Castra Galbae and ordered him auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Santa María del Patrocinio en Buenos Aires . The Archbishop of the Archeparchy of Lviv, Ihor Wosnjak CSsR, donated him the episcopal ordination on April 7, 2009 in the Saint George's Cathedral in Lviv ; Co- consecrators were the bishop of the Eparchy Santa María del Patrocinio en Buenos Aires, Miguel Mykycej FDP , and the bishop of the Eparchy Sambir-Drohobych , Julian Voronowskyj MSU. On April 10, 2010 Benedict XVI appointed him. also as Apostolic Administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the Eparchy Santa María del Patrocinio en Buenos Aires.
On March 23, 2011, the Synod of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Lviv elected him Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halych. Pope Benedict XVI on March 25, 2011 confirmed the election of Svyatoslav Shevchuk as Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halych. Shevchuk is thus the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. In addition, he became Archbishop of the Kiev Archeparch, which is the own parish of the Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halych. The inauguration took place on March 27, 2011 in the Patriarchate Cathedral for the Resurrection of Jesus in Kiev .
Since the office of Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halych is traditionally linked to the cardinal dignity , Svyatoslav Shevchuk is considered a candidate for the cardinal office.
