Ihor Wosnjak CSsR , Polish : Igor Woźniak , Ukrainian : Ігор Возьняк , (born August 3, 1952 in Lypyzi , Lviv Oblast , Ukrainian SSR ) is the incumbent Archbishop of Lviv for the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church .

Life

After finishing school, Ihor Wosnjak trained as a technician and did his military service . In 1973, he entered a monastery of the Redemptorists ( religious symbol : CSsR) a. In Lviv he studied until 1980 at the seminary , philosophy and theology . On November 23, 1980 he was ordained a religious priest of the Redemptorists.

He took his perpetual vows on July 2, 1981. After his ordination , he worked as a priest in the Roman Catholic diocese of Lviv . During this time he supported local priests, some of whom performed their pastoral duties underground. From 1989 he served in Ternopil . From 1990 to 1996 he was the Provincial of his religious community for the Lviv Province . In 2001 he obtained a licentiate in Catholic theology in Rome .

His appointment as auxiliary bishop in Lemberg and the simultaneous appointment as titular bishop of Nisa in Lycia took place on January 11, 2002. On February 17, 2002, Major Archbishop Ljubomyr Cardinal Husar and his co-consecrators Archbishop Michael Bzdel CSsR ( Winnipeg ) and Bishop Mychajlo Sabryha ( Ternipeg ) consecrated him ) to the bishop.

After the seat of the Grand Archbishop moved from Lviv to Kiev , Vosnjak was appointed the first Archbishop of the Lviv Archepark on November 10, 2005 by Cardinal Husar. Pope Benedict XVI confirmed the appointment. From February 10th to March 25th, 2011, during the vacancy in the Major Archdiocese of Kiev-Halytsch , he was Apostolic Administrator sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis of the Ukrainian Catholic Major Archdiocese of Kiev-Halytsch.

Consecrator

Archbishop Wosnjak was chief consecrator of Svyatoslaw Shevchuk to titular bishop of Castra Galbae (later Grand Archbishop of Kiev-Halytsch) and Wenedykt Aleksijtschuk to titular bishop of Gernaniciana (auxiliary bishop in Lemberg). As a co- consecrator he assisted Bohdan Dzjurach to the titular bishop of Vagada (auxiliary bishop in Kiev ).
