Life

As a child and adolescent, Wenedykt Aleksijtschuk only experienced the church underground. His mother, a teacher, occasionally took him to church. Since church visits had a negative effect on his professional career, he also had no intensive contact with the Christian faith. Following school attendance and military service , Wenedykt worked in nursing . After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the new national beginning of Ukraine, he returned to the Church. He contacted the theological seminary in Lviv and began studying theology .

On October 9, 1991 Philemon Kurchaba CSsR , the auxiliary bishop in Lviv, consecrated him as a deacon . He was ordained a priest on March 29, 1992 by Cardinal Myroslaw Ivan Lyubachivskyi . Since 1992 he has been working as a pastor in Bystrytsya, a village in western Ukraine . In 1993 he entered the religious order of the Student Order and took his religious vows on December 31, 1995 . His order sent him, who had chosen the name Benedict as a religious priest , to eastern Ukraine . The leadership of the order commissioned Father Benedikt with a missionary work to Polatsk in Belarus . He could converse in Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian and also preached in these languages. The Belarusian authorities observed the young priest monk with critical and suspicious eyes. This led to a conflict with the government. Father Benedict was sent to Canada to oversee a congregation. On April 17, 1999 he was elected to the Hegumen of the Studitenkloster in Uniw , in 2005 he was confirmed in his office.

On July 14, 2010, the Synod of Bishops of the Greek Catholic Church of the Ukrainians elected him auxiliary bishop in Lviv.
