The diocese of Basse-Terre et Pointe-à-Pitre ( Latin : Dioecesis Imae Telluris et Petrirostrensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Basse-Terre on Basse-Terre , an island in the Lesser Antilles within the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean , in the overseas department of France Guadeloupe . It includes Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy .

history

Pope Pius IX founded the diocese of Guadeloupe et Basse-Terre on September 27, 1850 from cessions of territory from the diocese of Martinique and subordinated it to the archbishopric of Bordeaux as a suffragan diocese . On July 19, 1951, the diocese got its current name. On September 26, 1967, it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saint-Pierre et Fort-de-France as a suffragan .
