As Small Antilles (Engl. Lesser Antilles ) is defined as a chain of islands in the eastern Caribbean extending from the Virgin Islands extends to the north up to the Venezuelan coast in the south and along with the Bahamas and the Greater Antilles , the West Indies forms.

They are divided into the Leeward Islands and Leeward Islands . The names refer to the northeast trade winds that prevail in these latitudes .

Climate change

The Lesser Antilles are affected by the effects of climate change ; a study by Karnauskas et al. (2016) in the journal Nature Climate Change found that progressive climate change would lead to the islands drying up by 2090.

With this assignment there are differences in the usage of the language in different countries. B. Dominica also assigned to the Windward Islands. Trinidad and Tobago are part of the Lesser Antilles, but not one of the leeward islands to which they are often mistakenly counted.
