Grande-Terre is the eastern of the two main islands of the French overseas department of Guadeloupe in the Caribbean (589 km²). The western and larger main island is Basse-Terre . The two islands are separated by the Rivière Salée inlet, which is just 60 meters wide and three kilometers long, and the Passage de La Gabarre , which adjoins it to the south .
Grande-Terre is surrounded by coral reefs .
