The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Nouméa ( lat. : Archidioecesis Numeanus ) is in New Caledonia , one to France related archipelago in the Pacific Ocean , located Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church . The seat is in Nouméa .
history
On July 23, 1847, the diocese was the Apostolic Vicariate of New Caledonia ("Novae Caledoniae") by Pope Pius IX. Founded from the Apostolic Vicariate Central Oceania; the first vicar apostolic was Guillaume Douarre of the religious order of the Marianists , who are still involved in the archbishopric today. 1966 the vicariate was by Pope Paul VI. raised to an archbishopric. The first archbishop was Pierre-Paul-Émile Martin SM.
