Diocese of Reval

The Diocese of Reval was founded in Livonia in 1219 by the Danish King Waldemar II . The diocese was subordinate to the Archbishop of Lund and included northern Estonia .

The Bishop of Reval did not have any secular rule, but from 1521 he was imperial prince . In 1561 the Reformation was introduced and the diocese dissolved.

During the time of Swedish rule, the diocese was rebuilt in 1638 as the diocese of the Church of Sweden and existed until the Russian conquest in 1710.
