The Diocese of Crediton ( Latin : Dioecesis Cridiensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese in what is now the United Kingdom , with its seat in Crediton .

history

The Diocese of Crediton was established in 909 from cessions of territory from the Diocese of Sherborne . Eadwulf became the first bishop . The Diocese of Crediton comprised the counties of Cornwall and Devon . In 931 the bishopric of Crediton gave up parts of its territory to establish the bishopric of Cornwall . 1040 the area of ​​the dissolved Diocese of Cornwall was annexed again to the Diocese of Crediton.

In 1050 the episcopal see was moved from Crediton to Exeter by Bishop Leofric and the title was changed to Bishop of Exeter .

The Diocese of Crediton was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Canterbury as a suffragan .
