The Carpentras diocese ( Latin : Dioecesis Carpentoractensis ) is a former Roman Catholic diocese in southern France .

history

The Carpentras diocese has been documented since 439. At that time, its bishop Constantinus took part in a synod in Regium ( Riez ).

Since 1475, the diocese Carpentras belonged to the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Avignon . With the Concordat of 1801 the diocese Carpentras was dissolved and in the archbishopric Avignon incorporated .

In 2009 the diocese was re-established as the titular bishopric of Carpentras and was awarded for the first time in June 2016.
