Titular diocese of Carpentras
Carpentras ( Latin Sancti Papuli ) is a titular diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .
It goes back to the Diocese of Carpentras with its seat in Carpentras , which was first mentioned in a document in 439 and was dissolved on November 29, 1801 as a result of the French Revolution . The fallen diocese was a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Avignon .
On February 9, 2009 Carpentras was by Pope Benedict XVI. rebuilt as a titular seat and awarded for the first time on June 16, 2016.
