Archdiocese of Embrun

The Archdiocese of Embrun , based in the city of Embrun , in the French Alps , was established in the 4th century as a diocese of the Catholic Church . From 794 to the Concordat of 1801 it was a metropolitan bishopric . Since then, and finally from 1822, his area has belonged to the Gap diocese .

On the eve of the French Revolution, the ecclesiastical province of Embrun included the following bishoprics in addition to the eponymous archbishopric:

  1. Diocese of Digne
  2. Diocese of Glandèves
  3. Diocese of Grasse
  4. Diocese of Nice
  5. Diocese of Senez
  6. Diocese of Vence

Titular Archbishops

Until 2008, the title of Archbishop of Embrun was held by the Archbishop of Aix , who until 2002 also exercised metropolitan rights over most of the old ecclesiastical province of Embrun, and since then has also been the Bishop of Gap .
