The diocese of Lindsey ( Latin : Dioecesis Syddensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese located in what is now the United Kingdom , with its seat in Lindsey .

history

The Bishopric of Lindsey was established in 680 from cessions of territory from the Bishopric of Lichfield . Eadhæd became the first bishop of the Lindsey diocese . In 971, following attacks by Danish Vikings , the bishopric was moved from Lindsey to Dorchester and the title changed to Bishop of Dorchester .

The diocese of Lindsey was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Canterbury as a suffragan .

In 1969 the diocese of Lindsey was re-established as the titular diocese of Sidnacestre .
