The diocese of Dorchester ( Latin : Dioecesis Dorcestrensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese located in what is now the United Kingdom , with its seat in Dorchester .

history

The Diocese of Dorchester was formed between 869 and 888 as a result of the transfer of the episcopal see from Leicester to Dorchester. The first bishop was Harlardus . In 971, the diocese of Lindsey was attached to the diocese of Dorchester . Bishop Remigius de Fécamp moved the bishopric from Dorchester to Lincoln in 1072 as a result of attacks by the Normans and the title was changed to Bishop of Lincoln .

The diocese of Dorchester was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Canterbury as a suffragan .
