The diocese of Selsey ( Latin : Dioecesis Saelesiensis ) was a Roman Catholic diocese located in what is now the United Kingdom , with its seat in Selsey .

The diocese of Selsey was established in 681. Wilfrid became the first bishop of the Selsey diocese . Selsey Abbey was also founded at the same time . In 1075, Bishop Stigand moved the episcopal see from Selsey to Chichester and changed the title to Bishop of Chichester .

The diocese of Selsey was subordinate to the Archdiocese of Canterbury as a suffragan .

In 1969 the diocese of Selsey was re-established as the titular diocese of Selsea .
