The diocese of Elvas was a Roman Catholic diocese with the bishopric in Elvas in Portugal .

history

The diocese of Elvas was formed on June 9, 1570 from cessions of territory from the Archdiocese of Évora , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan .

On September 30, 1881 Pope Leo XIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Gravissimum Christi, the diocese of Elvas was again attached to the Archdiocese of Évora.
