history
The Archdiocese of Évora was established as the Diocese of Évora in the 4th century . As a result of the Islamic expansion , the Diocese of Évora went under. In 1166, the diocese of Évora could be rebuilt as a result of the Reconquista . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Braga as a suffragan . 1394 was the diocese of Évora by Pope Boniface IX. subordinated to the Patriarchate of Lisbon as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution In eminentissimae dignitatis .
On September 24, 1540, the diocese of Évora was by Pope Paul III. with the apostolic constitution Gratiae divinae praemium raised to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Évora gave up on April 2, 1550 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Portalegre .
