The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Evora ( Latin Archidioecesis Eborensis , Portuguese Arquidiocese de Évora ) is in Portugal situated Roman Catholic archdiocese , based in Évora .

history

The Archdiocese of Évora was established as the Diocese of Évora in the 4th century . As a result of the Islamic expansion , the Diocese of Évora went under. In 1166, the diocese of Évora could be rebuilt as a result of the Reconquista . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Braga as a suffragan . 1394 was the diocese of Évora by Pope Boniface IX. subordinated to the Patriarchate of Lisbon as a suffragan with the Apostolic Constitution In eminentissimae dignitatis .

On September 24, 1540, the diocese of Évora was by Pope Paul III. with the apostolic constitution Gratiae divinae praemium raised to the archbishopric.
