The Portuguese Military Ordinariate ( Portuguese Ordinariato Castrense de Portugal and Diocese das Forças Armadas e de Segurança ) is the military ordinariate in Portugal and is responsible for the Portuguese Armed Forces .

history

The Portuguese Military Ordinary cares for members of the Portuguese Armed Forces of Catholic denominations with pastoral care. It was established by Pope Paul VI. Established on May 29, 1966 as a military vicariate . According to a mutual decision between the Holy See and the Portuguese Republic, the seat of the Portuguese military ordinariate is in Lisbon . It was raised to a diocese on July 21, 1986 by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Spirituali militum curae .
