history

The diocese of Vila Real was founded on April 20, 1922 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Apostolicae Praedecessorum Nostrorum from cedings of the dioceses of Bragança and Miranda and Lamego as well as the Archdiocese of Braga and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Braga as a suffragan .
