Amândio José Tomás

Amândio José Tomás (born April 23, 1943 in Cimo de Vila da Castanheira , Portugal ) is a Portuguese clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Vila Real .

Life

Amândio José Tomás received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Vila Real on August 15, 1967 .

On 5 October 2001 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Feradi Maius and ordered him to auxiliary bishop in Évora . John Paul II donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 2002 ; Co-consecrators were the Archbishops of the Curia Leonardo Sandri , substitute for the General Affairs Section of the Vatican State Secretariat , and Robert Sarah , Secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on January 8, 2008 coadjutor bishop of Vila Real. On May 17, 2011, Amândio José Tomás became Bishop of Vila Real, succeeding Joaquim Gonçalves , who resigned for reasons of age.

On May 11, 2019, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
