Januário Torgal Mendes Ferreira (born February 26, 1938 in Porto ) is a Portuguese clergyman and emeritus military bishop of Portugal .

Life

Januário Torgal Mendes Ferreira was ordained a priest on October 15, 1960 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Portuguese military ordinariate and titular bishop of Gaudiaba on April 22, 1989 . The episcopal ordination donated him the Patriarch of Lisbon and Military Bishop of Portugal, António Cardinal Ribeiro , on July 15 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Júlio Tavares Rebimbas , Archbishop ad personam of Porto , and Eurico Dias Nogueira , Archbishop of Braga .

On May 3, 2001, he was appointed military bishop of Portugal.

On October 10, 2013, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
