Eurico Dias Nogueira (born March 6, 1923 in Dornelas do Zêzere , † May 19, 2014 in Braga ) was a Portuguese clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Braga . He is considered a major figure in the Portuguese Church in the twentieth century.

Life

Eurico Dias Nogueira was ordained a priest on December 22, 1945 . He completed a doctorate in canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1945–1948) and a degree in civil law at the University of Coimbra in Coimbra (1948–1955). Among other things, he worked as a missionary in the Mozambican diocese of Vila Cabral .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 10, 1964 Bishop of Vila Cabral . The Archbishop ad personam of Coimbra , Ernesto Sena de Oliveira , donated him episcopal ordination on December 6th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Emanuele Trindade Salgueiro , Archbishop of Évora , and Manuel Dos Santos Rocha , Auxiliary Bishop in Lisbon . He was a participant in the last two sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

He was appointed Bishop of Sá da Bandeira in Angola on February 19, 1972 and resigned from this office on February 3, 1977. On November 3 of the same year he was by Paul VI. appointed Archbishop of Braga . On June 5, 1999, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.

Eurico Dias Nogueira was Prior of the Northern Province of the Lieutenancy Portugal of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .

Act

Eurico Dias Nogueira was a sought-after discussion partner due to his work and experience in Mozambique and Angola . He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante Dom Henrique .

He has published several books, was a judge at the ecclesiastical court and was involved in postgraduate courses for lawyers and attorneys and in the Braga Council Seminar.
